Description Sally Laurent-Muehleisen 2002-10-18 05:34:14 AEST
Hi, I've just installed 3.5p1 of the openssh package on a RedHat linux pentium
machine. I have a number of problems. First, the sshd does not start up
automatically when I boot. When I try to start it from the root account, I get
the error:
Privilege separation user sshd does not exist

When I try to start it up from my (usual) user account, I get the following error:

Could not load host key: /usr/local/etc/ssh_host_key
Could not load host key: /usr/local/etc/ssh_host_rsa_key
Could not load host key: /usr/local/etc/ssh_host_dsa_key
Disabling protocol version 1. Could not load host key
Disabling protocol version 2. Could not load host key
sshd: no hostkeys available -- exiting.

I have tried running make host-key several times, as well as running the
commands separtely.

you have to read the README's from the distribution
and created the 'sshd' user.
