To reproduce: $ ssh -MNfe \~ some.host.com $ ssh some.host.com type RETURN ~ a tilde is printed Removing the -e option doesn't help. Adding the -e option to the second invocation doesn't help. It works fine when not using a shared connection. OpenSSH_5.0p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007 Also version 4.7 is affected.
