Description karthik 2009-10-27 01:32:27 AEDT
Hi

We have around 480 users configured in one Linux(Suse 10) machine.
and the client program(ssh-client) makes ssh connection to the machine for all the user at one stretch every 15 minutes.

but sometimes it throws the below error in the syslog(/var/log/messages/) for some users:
Invalid user user1 from w.x.y.z

the error does not occur everytime. sometime it happens for user1...and next time it works ok..

also the error occurs only in Suse10(openssh-4.2p1-18.38.3).This error is not occuring in Suse 9(openssh-4.1p1-11.44).

we tried with different ssh clients but error happens with both the clients..
Can you please let us know the reason for this error?
Is it a Bug or something related to configuration.

Thanks and Regards
Karthik

Can you reproduce the problem with the latest version (5.3p1) from openssh.com compiled from source?

Are you using /etc/passwd as your user database, or something else (NIS, LDAP, etc.)?

Please reopen if you can reproduce with a version that's a) recent and b) not modified by a vendor. If you want to stick with the version provided by SuSE then you'll need to seek help from them.
